For entrepreneurs who want to be ready for the future of digital invoicing and Peppol e-invoicing, Odoo already offers full support for Peppol, the European network for structured electronic invoices. This means you can already work compliant, both for international customers within Europe and for future obligations in the Netherlands. With Odoo, you automate your invoicing, improve efficiency, and minimize errors in your administration.

In various European countries, electronic invoicing via Peppol is now mandatory. This has been the case since January 1, 2026, for almost all B2B invoices between Belgian VAT-registered businesses. Paper invoices or PDFs via email no longer count as official invoices for these transactions. The Netherlands will follow through the European VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) directive, with a requirement for electronic invoicing for cross-border transactions within the EU by 2030 at the latest.

Peppol in Odoo: how does it work?

Odoo integrates Peppol directly and free of charge into the ERP workflow. Invoices can be easily sent and received via the Peppol network for electronic invoicing, fully integrated into your accounting, without manual exports or imports. Invoices are automatically validated according to Peppol standards, significantly reducing your administrative burden.

It is important to know that Peppol is fully integrated from Odoo 17 onwards. From this version, Odoo can directly function as an access point and Service Metadata Publisher, enabling the sending and receiving of Peppol e-invoices directly.

In Odoo 16 you could already generate Peppol-UBL XML invoices, but you had to manually upload them to a Peppol access point. The most recent versions, such as Odoo 18 and 19, have further refined this functionality, with improved error handling and user-friendliness.

Why Peppol is important for Dutch companies

Peppol is not only relevant due to Dutch obligations. More and more European countries are using Peppol and other forms of structured electronic invoicing as standard, which means that companies doing business internationally are increasingly encountering this. For example, Peppol has been mandatory since 2026 for almost all B2B invoices between Belgian VAT-registered companies. Dutch companies with Belgian customers must therefore be prepared for this. Paper invoices or PDFs via email no longer count as official invoices, which can lead to delays, missed payments, or compliance risks.

In the Netherlands, electronic invoicing is expected to become mandatory for certain transactions under the European ViDA directive, with implementation by around 2030 at the latest. By implementing Peppol in Odoo now, companies can serve their European customers seamlessly and are prepared for future regulations. Moreover, it helps you to be ready for other European markets that follow electronic invoicing and Peppol standards.

What Odoo does for you

By using Peppol through Odoo, you directly benefit from multiple advantages: you work according to European e-invoicing standards, automate invoicing, reduce administrative burdens, and decrease the chance of errors. You are ready for international expansion, as Peppol e-invoicing is increasingly becoming mandatory for B2B transactions in Europe.

The digital invoicing and e-invoicing transformation in Europe has already begun. In several European countries, including Belgium, electronic invoicing via Peppol has now become the standard for B2B invoicing, and the Dutch obligation will follow towards 2030 through European regulations such as ViDA. With Odoo’s integrated Peppol functionality, you are already prepared, fully automate your processes, and work efficiently and future-proof.
